Job description

We're looking for a passionate, seasoned Head of Growth who wants to make a big impact as we grow Almanac's surface area and scale it to millions.

You'll be joining a small, gritty team of veteran builders who share a collective belief that the world is inexorably moving towards distributed, decentralized work—and that our tools need to support this change. Our supporters believe in this vision, we recently raised a $34M Series A and have a successful beta product with hundreds of paying, engaged customers. As we open up our product to self-serve users in Q1, we need your help to make 2022 our breakout year of viral growth.

About the role

We're looking for a seasoned growth leader who will play a transformational role in charting our growth trajectory as a company, leading us to become the cornerstone productivity tool for distributed teams. You will work collaboratively with the rest of the organization to develop, socialize, and implement our growth plan, while directly managing the existing growth team. You'll also immerse yourself in the details of the work, setting up growth funnel instrumentation, designing experiments, and analyzing user data in order to optimize the revenue funnel.

Specifically you'll:

  • Develop all aspects of our bottoms up growth strategy in partnership with the executive team, and charting the overall growth trajectory of the company
  • Operationalize the growth team's strategy, working iteratively, strategically, and rapidly to achieve our goals, while demonstrating resolve and creativity in overcoming challenges along the way
  • Directly manage and build the Growth team—including paid acq, SEO, customer operations, sales, and growth engineers and designers—to deliver outstanding results, while personally setting the bar for quality, speed, and tenacity. You will be the key driver in recruiting and hiring other elite Growth team members.
  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Design, Operations, and Marketing teams to execute the growth strategy, with a particular focus on collaborating with Product to prioritize growth initiatives and product changes.
  • Develop and deploy a growth data and analytics strategy, including data infrastructure, analytics tooling, and integration with the existing data roadmap
  • Use data and analytics to drive decision-making and measure effectiveness, while creating a culture of structured experimentation and iteration to optimize our revenue funnel

About you

Experiences that make you stand out:

  • You have 5-10 years of direct growth experience as a founder, head of growth, or growth lead at a Series A - C company
  • You've built—in part or in whole—the growth strategy for a bottoms-up SaaS product, with a specific focus on B2B productivity tools (e.g., Figma, Notion, Airtable, etc.)
  • You've directly run one or more of the following functional growth teams: paid acquisition, performance marketing, SEO, growth product, or acquisition, or directly managed the team lead
  • You've designed, ran, and iterated on quantitative, product-driven experiments
  • Strong Plus: You've directly managed a cross-functional growth team that includes engineers, designers, customer operations, sales, and product. (If you don't have this direct experience, then this is an immediate aspiration of yours)
  • Nice to have: You have an MBA from a top-tier school

Skills that make you extraordinary:

  • Intrinsic drive and hunger: you deeply want to build a generation-defining company in both its scale and quality
  • Grit and persistence: you stick at things longer than anyone you know until they work
  • Aggressive pacing: you work faster and have more bandwidth than anyone expects
  • Structured thinking: you think from first principles, breaking down complex, ambiguous problems into root causes and developing tactical, low-effort solutions to provide ideas
  • Quantitative reasoning: you can create sophisticated SQL queries and turn the results into digestible, visualized, insights and recommendations (we use Mode for this)
  • Love for Growth: You have expert-level knowledge of growth strategies, you always know the right tool for the job, and your deep network frequently asks you for advice
