Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the electrical architecture, design, analysis, and schematics for a high-resolution imaging system. This work includes an image sensor interface, communications protocols between boards and components, interfaces to processing electronics such as an FPGA or ISP, and output data protocols and interfaces. Implementation of several high precision timing circuits will also be required. Proficiency in high-speed digital design for a mixed-signal system is required. Electronics integration and system miniaturization are key directions for our product efforts. The role is expected to lead, guide, and grow the electrical engineering team and establish appropriate processes and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Primary engineer for all digital electrical circuits in camera. Working with other engineers and scientists, develop digital electronics architecture for a camera product from requirements and data from existing prototypes that is high performance, reliable, and cost-effective
  • Supervise work done by outside vendors and fabricators to ensure high quality electrical boards
  • Produce schematics for electrical circuitry with performance analysis and when appropriate create the accompanying board layouts. Review layouts done by others
  • Primary engineer responsible for testing performance of the electronic subsystems, including developing test setups and procedures to verify performance specifications are met
  • Comply with nLIGHT engineering practices and procedures
  • As appropriate, participate in design reviews and cross-discipline engineering panels

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum BS electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar discipline, MS preferred
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in high-speed digital electronic design
  • Demonstrated experience to bring effective designs to product
  • Strong understanding of clock control and high precision timing circuitry
  • Broad knowledge of embedded control systems, microcontrollers as well as high performance processing devices such as FPGAs
  • Proficient in VHDL (preferred) or other HDL
  • Strong understanding of industrial design standards and environmental requirements
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities in complex situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for customer communication and technical presentations
  • Able to form a key part of interdisciplinary teams and contribute to the company culture
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent project schedules with critical technical deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in digital cameras and imaging sensors, including hardware and software interfaces
  • Experience in writing scripts for board testing (eg, Python, Labview)
  • Experience with an ECAD tool for schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium Designer preferred)

Salary, level based on experience, education and skills:

  • Senior Electrical Engineer: $95,000 – $125,000
  • Principal Electrical Engineer: $120,000 - $145,000
