Almanac

Sr/Lead Performance Engineer

Job description

Almanac is a modern collaboration tool for remote teams that makes the dream of fewer meetings a reality. It's a single source of truth for project documentation and decision-making: one place where remote technical teams can write, approve, track, and document.

We believe teams and companies are the sum of their systems and processes—but most are surprisingly informal about how they collaborate, leading to chaos, delays, and frustration for managers, executives, and clients.

Technical teams at companies like Appetiser, Gipper, Decimal, Ender, and Indeed are using Almanac to change how they document work, get feedback without meetings, and automate repetitive processes.

We're looking for a full-time senior or lead performance engineer to ensure and drive improvements in performance, scalability, and reliability of the Almanac platform.

About the role

We’re looking for a hungry, talented engineer who wants to make a big impact at an exciting inflection point in our growth.

You will use your strong understanding of full stack engineering architecture to principally make our platform faster—a key benefit for customers. You'll work closely across our engineering team to identify and address performance issues, design and execute performance tests, and provide recommendations for optimizing application speed.

Specifically you'll:

  • Partner with other engineers, design, and product to deliver lightning-fast product experiences that feel secure to customers.
  • Build out the tooling and processes needed to ensure development at Almanac is efficient and simple.
  • Analyze and report on performance test results, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitor production systems and provide guidance on performance-related issues.

About you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience, 3+ years of performance tuning and optimization of databases, applications and infrastructure
  • Experience with AWS or GCP
  • Experience with Terraform or any other infrastructure as code tool
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience with performance monitoring and analysis tools such as Datadog, Sentry or NewRelic
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with backend frameworks like Express (Node) or Rails

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Online portfolio (GitHub) featuring examples of development work
  • Heroku experience a bonus!
  • Experience with load testing, stress testing, and capacity planning
  • Able to design and implement automated performance testing
  • Able to proactively make recommendations to optimize system configuration and resources to scale
  • Able to work independently, while collaborating with stakeholders
